Admission to Moroccan Universities for international students

To apply to universities in Morocco, you must hold a baccalaureate or its equivalent at the entry year. For the master programs, students must hold a bachelor’s degree. Whereas for the PhD programs, the student must hold a master’s degree and have to determine the chosen university and sector.

Most of the programs in the Moroccan universities are given in French. However, the number of offered programs in English is increasing. Moreover, very few programs are conducted in Standard Arabic.

Apply to universities in Morocco: Enrollment Procedures

To enroll in most of the higher education public institutions in Morocco, you have to go through the diplomatic channel of your country, which will help you with your request.

After that, your application will be sent to the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation (AMCI), which may offer you a scholarship in Moroccan universities. It may also facilitate the process of obtaining a study visa in Morocco.

To apply for most of the private universities, you can send your application straight to the university you wish to study in.

Application to Moroccan universities occurs in 2 steps: 

Pre-registration phase

First and foremost, students have to go through a pre-registration step that should be done every year before the 31st of July. They have to prepare the required documents, then send them to the AMCI if they apply to public universities in Morocco. 

Registration phase

If the admission is accepted, the candidate will receive a letter that explains the final registration procedures in Morocco. The student should then send back that letter after signing it. 

The next step takes place once they arrive in Morocco at the Department of Executive Education. There, the student complete their registration file, get a registration authorization and collect their first scholarship (if they earned one). 

Once this administrative paperwork done, the student go to their university in Morocco to confirm their final registration.

General Admission Requirements

In case of visiting or non-degree students, they must enroll for not less than 6 credits during the summer session or a minimum of 9 credits. It should not be more than 15 credits for fall or spring semesters.

As for the postgraduate visiting students, they can’t exceed 12 credits during fall or spring semesters. Applicants should get prior approval from the local institution on the courses they wish to join as visitor students.

Moreover, keep in mind that application process and requirements vary depending on the institution you apply to. Usually, for undergraduate studies in public universities, you don’t have to pass any admission test. On the other hand, applying to postgraduate studies in public universities and to any private university in Morocco might require you to pass an oral and written admission test. 

To get admission in a specialized public institution, the admission test is mandatory. But for some specialized institutions, like for medical school, you will need to satisfy the institution’s GPA requirement.

Admission Conditions for Visiting Students

Applicants must be in good standing with their home institution. They must also pass admission interview successfully.

Important Notes

  • Admission to the university with a non-degree seeking status does not guarantee automatic access to regular status when submitting the application.
  • To transfer from non-degree seeking or visiting requests to a regular status, applicants have to meet the academic requirements to join the program.
  • Visiting university students who wish to enroll in the graduate courses have to get permission from the course trainer and school dean.

How to Apply?

  • Completion of your online application.
  • Sending of the required documents by post to the Admission and Outreach Office of the university. You will find the office’s address on the university’s official website.
  • Certified copy of the secondary certificate (High school diplomas based on distance education). Universities do not accept GED and similar tests for admission. 
  • The official transcripts of all completed and/or attempted university-level course work.
  • Pledge of academic integrity
  • Registrar’s authorization
  • Submission of a one written article, including the reasons for seeking to visit the university.
  • One copy of the ID card (passport for foreigners)
  • Two passport-size recent color photographs (with the applicant’s name on the back).

Along with their ID proof, birth certificate and school transcripts, international students who apply to Moroccan universities must also provide other essential documents:

  • Proof of fee payment or a scholarship funding
  • Declaration of financial support
  • Medical certificate
  • Health insurance (recommended, even if the university does not require it)
  • A motivational letter (if the university requires it)

Moreover, students applying for postgraduate studies in Morocco (master’s and PhD), additional documents may be required: 

  • Research proposal outline 
  • References and letters of recommendation
  • Proof of working experience (if the university asks for it)
