University of Oslo
The University of Oslo (UiO) is the first university in Norway. King Frederick VI of Denmark established the institution in 1811. The university includes 28,000 students and 7,000 employees.

Norwegian University of Science and Technology
The roots of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology go back to 1760. It was established in 1996.
In 2014, the government asked the country’s universities to provide suggestions to enhance the performance of Norway’s institutions of higher education. In 2016, the university officially became NTNU after the merger of six research and higher educational institutions in Trondheim.

The University of Tromsø – The Arctic University of Norway
The university was established in 1968, and it opened in 1972. Its location makes it a natural destination for the development of the region’s environment, culture, and society.
The University of Tromsø offers a wide range of study programs, as it has a very international community. That’s why around 20% of its teaching staff and 10% of students are foreigners. Furthermore, it is the biggest educational and research institution in Northern Norway.

Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU)
The university exists since in 1859 as the Norwegian Agricultural Postgraduate College. In 1897, it became a university-level university college and received university status in 2005.
In 2014, it merged with the Norwegian School of Veterinary Science (NVH) in Oslo and became the Norwegian University of Life Sciences.
It is the only educational institution in Norway to provide veterinary education. Moreover, the university is the second-oldest institution of higher education in Norway.
