Study in Austria: Scholarships for 2022-2023

Students can apply for scholarships offered by many institutions. They differ according to the home country and educational level. Financial support organizations and the Austrian Agency for International Cooperation in Education and Research (OeAD) offer many scholarships.

OeAD Scholarship

The Austrian Agency for International Cooperation in Education and Research (OeAD) offers scholarships for students from different university educational levels. It also supports the researchers who pursue studies in one of the Austrian universities or those who have short visits to Austria. The agency offers advice and support, student accommodation, and help regarding the visa and academic issues.

The Agency has offices in different areas, such as Vienna, Innsbruck, Graz, and others.

Conditions

  1. The scholarship covers the study or research project at the selected institution in the scholarship award. Students can not to change the project or the institution.
  2. The award only becomes valid once the student fully completed the letter of acceptance, sign it, and send it via e-mail or post.
  3. The arrival date written on your acceptance letter is binding. You can only postpone it if approved by the OeAD and your academic supervisor.
  4. Non-compliance with the scholarship conditions may result in its termination.
  5. The submission of false statements will immediately cancel your scholarship.
  6. Students have to master German and have a good command of English, according to the teaching language of the selected discipline.
  7. If the student violates any of the Austrian laws, that would lead to the termination of the awarded scholarship.
  8. If the required academic performance or language skills are not sufficient, your scholarship will be terminated.

Scholarship Amount

The scholarship award will state on the amount of the grant. You have to pay your accommodation, insurance, and study fees from your scholarship installments.

You must not receive any other scholarships in Austria during the period of your OeAD scholarship. If you receive other financial support, you have to inform the agency immediately, otherwise the scholarship payments will stop.

Disciplines

The scholarship includes the following disciplines: natural sciences, technical sciences, medicine, health sciences, agriculture sciences, social sciences, humanities, and arts.

Scholarships available for international students in Austria

Ernst Mach Grant for studying in a University of Applied Sciences in Austria

This is a scholarship for students studying a bachelor or a master program in a university of applied sciences. It is offered by the OeAD-GmbH and provides funding for 4 to 10 months study. Its purpose is to welcome more international students in the Austrian universities of applied science. 

Ernst Mach Grant worldwide for postgraduate, PhD and postdocs 

This scholarship is offered by the OeAD-GmbH and financed by the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research of Austria. Targeting researchers and university lecturers of all disciplines, it awards a full funding to students for a duration of 1 to 9 months.

Scholarships of the Scholarship Foundation of the Republic of Austria 

This scholarship is granted to international students pursuing a master’s degree in Social Sciences, in the field of international relations. Moreover, the duration of the funding is for 10 months that can be renewed if the student proves a successful study progress. The recipient of the grant will receive a monthly amount of EUR 1,050.

Franz Werfel Grant 

This is another scholarship for postgraduate students amounting to EUR 1,250 per month along with a mobility subsidy of EUR 600 if the research stay is for 3 months or longer. This grant targets international students from all countries except from Austria for a time span of 4 to 9 months.
